Takeaway: Find out where we stand with our contract proposals with the online Bargaining Status at a Glance page. Download this abridged version and post it. Fill out this form if you’re interested in attending a future large bargaining session.
Dear colleague,
In May, we presented an ambitious set of proposals for bargaining our next contract. We shared a summary of them with you, with links to the contract language we put forward. Nearly six months have come and gone, along with the expiration of our contract, and management has either not responded to the most substantial proposals—or rejected anything of substance. In fact, rather than bargain, the administration has spent the past several months complaining about the number of people in sessions!
We finally have an agreement that preserves open, transparent bargaining in alternating large and small sessions; the first one took place yesterday. Now that the administration is returning to the table, we need to see a commitment to addressing our issues with the same urgency we feel. All of us sacrificed during the pandemic, and now we’ve gone months without a raise at a time of historic inflation. We have pressing needs, and Rutgers has the money and the resources to meet them. Enough is enough.
We want you to know where we stand in bargaining, so we’ve produced several new resources. Click here for a complete Bargaining Status at a Glance, showing the progress (or lack of it) on all our major proposals. If you want a cheat sheet, you can download this abridged version. Print it out and post it on your office door or your department bulletin board, so your colleagues and students can see who’s committed to making progress—and who’s standing in the way of it.
We’ll continue to have written updates from each bargaining session as they take place—and the R U Listening? podcast will continue its “From the Table” series that drills down on important issues from negotiations. If you’re interested in attending a future large bargaining session, fill out this form, and we’ll get you the information.
