Dear colleague,
We have been working with students and our community partners to develop proposals for our university to serve the common good, on our campuses and beyond their borders. At our next bargaining session on Tuesday, December 13, we will be presenting a new contract article reflecting the urgent needs of students and the communities that contribute so much to Rutgers.
We’ve invited President Holloway to attend this session—to send a strong message that his administration is committed to working in partnership to achieve a truly beloved community. If you’d like to show your support for our community and student allies, we invite you to attend the bargaining session, starting at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13. Fill out this form to tell us you’d like to come, and we will get back to you with the details.
You can read the proposed contract article by clicking here. The proposals—for an affordable housing program and freeze on campus housing rates, a “Beloved Community Fund” for local residents in need, a debt forgiveness program for students and alumni who are punished for outstanding debts, and an ongoing community-union-university effort to work for the common good—were developed from months of discussions and a survey of some 300 members of the Rutgers community. We look forward to President Holloway playing an active role in the partnership we have developed by attending bargaining. If you’d like to attend the session, sign up here.
In solidarity,
Becky and Todd
