Dear colleague,
Yesterday, the Trump administration announced an ill-defined blanket freeze on ALL federal grant funding, no matter the recipients or the objectives of the grant. This puts nearly $600 million in federal funding for Rutgers at risk! The blanket freeze comes after unprecedented restrictions imposed last week on the National Institutes of Health.
Delays in federal grant funding will cost lives! The Trump administration is blocking life-saving research on cancer, diabetes, avian flu, and so much more—all to score political points for his agenda.
Please come to an emergency union meeting about Trump’s research and funding cuts TOMORROW (Wednesday, January 29) at 6 p.m. Click here to register for the Zoom link—then tell your colleagues about this meeting and ask them to attend! We need to share information about the impact and scope of this assault on our work—and discuss what we can do to confront it. We need to hear from you!
Our allies in Higher Ed Labor United are organizing a Zoom phone bank on Thursday, January 30, at 3 p.m. to contact members of Congress and call on them to demand an end to Trump’s reckless attack on government funding. Click here to sign up if you can participate. Join your colleagues from around the country in raising your voice!
If you are a Principal Investigator, we invite you to join our regular meeting for PIs this Thursday at 12 p.m. Click here to join the meeting.
We’ll talk more about this at the emergency meeting, but we need personal stories about how your work will be affected by Trump’s assault. This is critical to organizing an active opposition. Please click here to share your story with us, and colleagues and union staff will follow up!
In solidarity,
Rutgers AAUP-AFT, Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union, AAUP-BHSNJ, and UCAN
