Vote in NJ’s Election on Nov. 4 | Labor Walks for Mikie Sherrill | Be an Election Observer

Dear colleague,

Election Day in New Jersey is one week away, and the stakes are high for our university and our unions—especially the race for governor pitting Democratic US Rep. Mikie Sherrill against Trump-loving Republican Jack Ciattarelli.

We urge all of you who live in New Jersey to vote, on or before Election Day (click here for information on how to vote early). And no matter where you live, you can talk to your students about the importance of participating in this election. Share this URL with information specific to Rutgers students: https://cypp.rutgers.edu/ru-voting/. You can go to webpages at BallotpediaNJ Spotlight News, and the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters to learn more about Rep. Sherrill’s campaign stances.

Both Rutgers AAUP-AFT and the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union have endorsed Mikie Sherrill for governor. Our members have been canvassing in support of Sherrill with other NJ unions over the past several months. We’ve got one week left, so please try to join one of our labor walks if you’re in the New Brunswick area:

  • Thursday, October 31, 6–8 p.m. – Text-Banking on Zoom – Click here to sign up

Lastly, as you may have heard, the Trump Justice Department is sending federal monitors to New Jersey, with a particular focus on Passaic County—a transparent attempt at intimidating Latino and Black voters. Organizations in the area have prepared to deploy non-partisan election observers to protect everyone’s voting rights. They have asked for help, particularly during the early voting period through Election Day. Click here if you would like to volunteer to be an observer.

In solidarity,
Matthew Buckley, Joint Legislative Committee Co-Chair, Rutgers AAUP-AFT
Thomas Raggio, Joint Legislative Committee Co-Chair, Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union
