Takeaway: Attend a union-led town hall discussion on artificial intelligence on Monday, October 6, at 7:30–8:30 p.m. Click here to register for the Zoom link.
Dear colleague,
Are you struggling over what you think about AI, how it’s affecting higher ed, and what we can do about it?
Join your Rutgers colleagues who serve on the national AAUP’s Ad Hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Academic Professions for a discussion of member-based research, recommendations, and resources for achieving more faculty power over ed-tech decisions at our institutions, including artificial intelligence. We will discuss how challenging university administrations’ deployment of artificial intelligence on our campuses is connected to a larger fight for academic freedom, shared governance, and the future of higher education.
We’ll also discuss the new report issued by the ad hoc committee, including key concerns that surfaced during nationwide research, the committee’s recommendations, and bargaining resources that it developed. We want to hear from you about what AI and technology concerns you think should be included in our next contract at Rutgers—and encourage you to get involved with a new joint union committee on AI.
In addition, we have some guidance and suggestions on talking to students about AI in the current political context. These resources were developed with members of our Climate Justice Committee for you to use and share with students and colleagues.
Please join us on Monday, October 6, at 7:30 p.m. for this discussion of AI. Click here to register.
