We’re asking our members to support legislation that will help protect immigrants and trans people from the Trump administration’s cruel attacks. Please call your state Senator and Assembly Members and ask them to support:
- Senate Bill 1628 (sponsored by Sens. Andrew Zwicker and Raj Mukherji), which would establish critical protections related to gender-affirming health care, for those providing, receiving, or allowing children to receive it.
- Senate Bill 3672 (sponsored by Sens. Gordon Johnson and Brian Stack), which would create procedures that bar state and local governments from aiding federal immigration enforcement.
You can find your legislators by clicking here and entering your street address and zip code; then scroll down to the New Jersey section and find your senator and two assembly members.—see the list below to find their phone number (if you live out of state, call Senate President Nicholas Scutari at 732-827-7480 and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin at 732-855-7441).
Here are some talking points to use when you make your call:
I’m calling to ask you to support legislation that would protect the most vulnerable people in our state from the cruel attacks coming from the Trump administration. Please support S1638 to protect health care for trans people and S3672 to defend immigrants against federal authorities.
I’m speaking not just for myself but as a member of one of the Rutgers academic unions that represents nearly 10,000 educators, researchers, clinicians, and counselors. Our unions are united in recognizing the danger of these conservative attacks and the impact it will have on ourselves, our students, and our communities, on campus and off.
I’m frightened by the lengths that the Trump administration has shown it will go to advance its persecution. Please help protect everyone’s rights in New Jersey by supporting S1638 and S3672.
