Tell NJ Congressional Republicans to vote NO on the Medicaid Cuts Bill

Dear colleague,

Today, the US House is expected to vote on the final passage of devastating legislation that would:

This spending bill would enable the largest transfer of wealth from the working class to the ultra-wealthy in American history. It will add more than $3 trillion to the US deficit by reducing life-saving services and investments in our future, in order to (partially) pay for tax cuts for the rich and fund a massive network of surveillance and detentions targeting all Americans.

In the Senate, three Republicans broke ranks, alongside every Democrat, to vote against the bill. Now it returns to the House for final passage. The original House version passed by only one vote, and New Jersey has three Republican members of Congress.

Please call them ASAP TODAY and urge them to vote against the bill, emphasizing the cuts to Medicaid, nursing homes, and hospitals. If you live in their district, say so! If not, you can identify yourself as a New Jersey resident, a Rutgers or Rowan faculty member, and/or a New Jersey health care provider.

Here are the numbers to call:

  • Tom Kean Jr. (NJ-7): (top priority, his seat is in a swing district)
    • DC Office: (202) 225-5361
    • District Office: (908) 547-3307
  • Jeff Van Drew (NJ-2):
    • DC Office: (202) 225-6572
    • District Office: (609) 625-5008
  • Chris Smith (NJ-4):
    • DC Office: (202) 225-3765
    • District Office: (732) 504-0567 or (732) 780-3035

Here is a sample call script:

My name is ________. I am a [constituent/New Jersey resident], and I work at [Rutgers/Rowan]. I am calling to urge the Congressman to vote NO on the reconciliation bill. This legislation would cut Medicaid and food assistance for millions of Americans and would undermine the ability of New Jersey hospitals and health care providers to serve the people of our state. I urge the Congressman to stand up for the American people and vote NO on this bill.

Thank you for taking action,
