Takeaway: Sign up for Strike School! Click here to register for two virtual 90-minute training sessions being held multiple times from January 25 through February 24.
Dear colleague,
Higher ed workers from the University of California to The New School have been going on strike to win better wages and dignity on the job. Currently, faculty at the University of Illinois-Chicago are striking for better wages and more mental health support for their students. Here at Rutgers we have been working without a contract for over 200 days, and management has not moved on our major issues. In order to win raises and other critical demands, we need to organize.
To build our power, hundreds of faculty, graduate workers, staff, and students have participated in Strike School over the past three months. The goal of Strike School is to catch members up on our contract campaign and what steps we need to take in order to win a good contract.
We’re offering two virtual 90-minute workshops that were developed and will be led by member-organizers and staff (click here to sign up):
- Session 1 – How We Win: Their Power and Ours
- Session 2 – Organizing 101: How to Have an Organizing Conversation
- Special Session – Striking as a Remote Worker (This session for remote workers will focus on strategies for online organizing to build a strike via Canvas and other digital tools.)
***All sessions will be virtual on Zoom. Complete the RSVP form to get the Zoom link.***
These sessions will be held multiple times over five weeks, from January 25th through February 24th, so you can pick the days and times that work for your schedule. They are for all members who want to get more involved in our contract campaign. The only way we’ll win the contract we deserve is if all of us—grad workers, full- and part-time faculty, postdocs, and staff—sharpen our power analysis and organizing skills. Please sign up—and reach out to your colleagues to ask them to join you; you can sign up for the same sessions.
In solidarity,
Becky and Todd
