Todd Wolfson, President of Rutgers AAUP-AFT, the union representing full-time Rutgers faculty members, issued the following statement in response to a Middlesex County Superior Court judge’s ruling immediately removing George Norcross’ indicted personal lawyer, Bill Tambussi, from the Rutgers Board of Governors. The union filed its suit earlier this year because Tambussi was violating a requirement that he live in Camden County while serving on the Board of Governors. Tambussi, who sold his longtime Camden County residence, has an apartment in Philadelphia and is registered to vote in Atlantic County:
We’re gratified that the judge in this case acted to vindicate the Board of Governors’ resident requirements, which were put in place to protect the interests of the Camden and Middlesex county communities, and to hold Rutgers accountable.
This is particularly true for Camden County, where Bill Tambussi is charged in a sweeping racketeering indictment of weaponizing Camden’s government to benefit his client, George Norcorss. Rutgers, as the state’s premier public research university, should not be stained by the association with a corrupt political organization.
We hope that Governor Murphy moves quickly to nominate a replacement for Tambussi who will act in the interests of America’s poorest city rather than at the behest of powerful political insiders.
