Takeaway: Rutgers Day is coming up on Saturday, April 30, and we want to use the opportunity to meet our students—and then each other at an in-person union party!

Dear colleague,
On Saturday, April 30, the adjunct and full-time units will be tabling and leafleting from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the College Avenue, Livingston, and Cook/Douglass campuses in New Brunswick. Click here if you can take a two-hour shift engaging with our students and their families. (We’ve made cool stickers for the kids and info flyers for students—and we’ll have our new union selfie backdrop, so your students can get pictures with you!)
From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., we’ll get together at our big union house at 11 Stone Street off College Avenue for a party, with beer, wine, and soft drinks, and food catered by Efe’s, a local Mediterranean restaurant. We’ll take advantage of the covered outdoor porch and backlot—complete with a basketball hoop for pick-up games—to make sure we limit indoor exposure. Even if you can’t help out with tabling and flyering, you and your family are still very welcome at the social event from 3–6 p.m. Click here to let us know you’re coming to the social (so we can get enough food and drink!).
It’s been another long and exhausting semester, and we haven’t seen each other in person in a long time. Some of us have never had a chance to meet in person! It would be great to see you face to face and socialize for the first time in way too long.
Our two unions have done a lot over this Spring and we aren’t finished fighting as the semester comes to a close. Here’s some of the ways you can show your support for our ongoing campaigns and activities:
- Adjuncts have been working all out on the One Faculty campaign to merge our bargaining units. They have well over 900 signed merger cards from adjuncts. If you’re an adjunct and you haven’t signed yet, please do so now by clicking here! Support from full-time faculty is particularly welcome: contact your PTL colleagues, make sure they know about the merger campaign—and ask them to sign at RutgersAAUP.org/merger!
- As many as 200 graduate students whose research and work was disrupted by the pandemic may lose funding and be unable to complete their degrees unless the administration acts quickly to support them. We need to keep the pressure. Please click here to write an email to President Holloway and the Graduate Deans asking that grads get the funding they need and deserve.
- Full-time faculty and grad workers, have you signed our statement of support for our demands in contract negotiations? Click here to sign the statement—and then ask three colleagues to sign.
- Click here to listen to the latest episode of our union’s R U Listening podcast on “Union Myth-Busting: Untangling Fact & Fiction.”
