Part-Time Lecturers across Rutgers received an email this afternoon about the hiring freeze the administration is putting into effect. The Officers and Board of your union were disturbed by the language in this message and asked for immediate clarification from Vivian Fernandez, the letter’s author and Senior VP of Human Relations at Rutgers.
- If you are a PTL who has accepted an appointment for Fall 2020 in writing (including via email), you are still appointed;
- If you applied for advancement this semester and your application is accepted, your advancement and raise will stand;
- If you have an appointment to teach a summer course, you are similarly still appointed.
This hiring freeze appears to be associated only with ADDITIONAL PTL hires from today’s date.
We thought it important to get out these confirmations, as many of you have been understandably upset by the poorly worded message. Our union fought hard for the gains made in the last contract and we are not about to see them taken back or suspended.If you feel that you are being treated unfairly or if you are notified that your appointment is being rescinded, please know that we are here to fight for you. Please reply to this email or contact David Winters, Acting President PTLFC-AAUP-AFT, at ptl@rutgersaaup.org with any questions.
