The November 5 election is less than two weeks away, and we don’t have to tell you that the stakes are high for our union, our university, and our communities. Whether extremist Republicans control the White House and Congress will come down to voting in a handful of states, including Pennsylvania, and congressional districts, including in New Jersey.
If you haven’t been able to participate in union events to support pro-labor candidates yet, now is the time to get involved. We can make a difference in the next 14 days!
- Join a “Higher Ed Votes” online rally on Monday, October 28, at 8 p.m., featuring AFT national president Randi Weingarten and union leaders active in the Higher Ed Labor United (HELU) coalition our unions helped launch several years ago. We will rally our combined energy around a progressive vision of public higher education—and channel that energy toward getting our campus communities out to vote!
- This Friday, October 25, at 4:30 p.m. in Westfield, NJ, Randi Weingarten will be the featured speaker at a rally and canvass for Sue Altman, who is running for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. Click here to tell us you’re coming. Our unions endorsed Sue earlier this year; she is a teacher and a union member who walked our picket lines. What’s more, she is running to defeat Republican incumbent Tom Kean Jr. in one of the handful of competitive House races in the country. Electing Sue is essential to blocking MAGA Republican control of Congress!
- For the next two weekends before the election, union members will be out in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, talking to voters about supporting Sue Altman for Congress and Kamala Harris for president. Click here to sign up for a canvassing event.
In addition to joining us for these events, we hope you’re talking to your students, colleagues, and friends about the importance of voting on or before November 5. More so than any election in recent memory, every vote counts!
