Takeaway: If you are a graduate fellow this academic year or were on fellowship in 2021–22 and/or 2022–23, please click here to take a short survey that will help our union support fellows.
Dear colleague,
One important victory in our new contract is a process for graduate fellows who are performing the work of TAs/GAs to be reclassified, so they can be represented under our union contract and receive full TA/GA pay and benefits, including access to the state health insurance program. We intend to file a unit-wide grievance over this issue. If the grievance is successful, fellows who we identify as performing TA or GA duties would be included in our bargaining unit.
To prepare this grievance and enforce our new contract language, we need information from fellows across departments and evidence showing you are performing TA/GA duties. If you are currently on fellowship or were on fellowship in the past two academic years, please click here to fill out a short survey. Some questions will be about your responsibilities in various roles, and others will focus on funding sources.
Any information you provide will help us build our case, but it will only be seen by union staff, lawyers, and grads on the fellows organizing committee. Your answers will NOT disqualify you from being included in the grievance, and you do NOT need to fill this out in order to be part of the grievance process. However, we ask that all current fellows and those who were fellows in 2021–2022 and/or 2022–2023 fill out this form so we can build the best case possible.
Your input is critical for us to win. Please answer all questions to the best of your ability. If anything is unclear, feel free to reach out to us at jchaffin@rutgersaaup.org or megumi.asada7@gmail.com.
