- Full schedule of info sessions and meetings this week
Dear colleague,
We hope you’ll make time to attend one of the information sessions and meetings we’re holding Monday through Thursday to discuss the tentative agreement we’ve negotiated with management. Starting Thursday night, members will start voting on whether to ratify it or not, and we want you to have the time and information you need to make your decision.
We think the tentative agreement, while not perfect, makes important progress toward our core demands of job security for our staff colleagues, improvements in the grad funding extensions program, PTL reappointments, and a schedule for payment of our deferred raises. In return, our full-time faculty members would accept a half-day-a-week furlough from April 12 through June 30, under a work-sharing arrangement that would fully protect the incomes of the majority of faculty through applying for unemployment.
You can click here for a summary of the highlights of the tentative agreement. You can click here to read the full text of the agreement. If you have questions about the work-sharing program, we have a regularly updated FAQ with answers to the ones we’ve heard most often. And you can always email us with any question or concern at aaup@rutgersaaup.org.
But there’s no better way to get your questions answered than a face-to-face meeting where we can talk to each other. The three chapters will hold town halls today and tomorrow, starting with New Brunswick at 7 p.m. tonight (click here to RSVP). Officers and union staff will be holding informational sessions, three times a day every day through Thursday (click here to RSVP). Lastly, all the unions who are part of this tentative agreement will come together for a Coalition of Rutgers Unions town hall meeting on Thursday, April 1, at 5 p.m. (with our colleague Naomi Klein one of the featured speakers; click here to RSVP).
We all have a decision to make—this tentative agreement won’t be ratified until our members say it is. Please come to the sessions and meetings we’ve scheduled so you can have all the information you need.
In solidarity,
Todd and Becky
