Takeaway: Rutgers HR put out a confusing message this afternoon about work rules. We assure you that the Union is here to protect you and OUR contract.
Dear Colleagues,
The University’s Vice President for Human Resources sent a message to you today concerning “cost control” actions the University is implementing. We’re writing to you to immediately clarify three items:
1) The table indicates that all “Classifications, Reclassifications, and Promotions” are suspended. Contractually guaranteed promotional increments will, in fact, be paid to faculty when due.
2) All “Out of Cycle” increases are noted as being suspended. Out of Cycle increases that have already been awarded will be paid.
3) The actions announced in management’s email do NOT apply to the Faculty Equity Program.
It’s unfortunate that, once again, the administration has disseminated information without consulting with the Union — and in a way that unnecessarily adds to the distress and anxiety we are all facing during these difficult times.
There are many challenges ahead of us and we will meet them head on. The Union, with your support, is well placed to do just that — protecting the working conditions of those who make it possible for the University to meet its obligations to our students and communities.
In solidarity,
Todd & Becky
