Our coalition of 19 unions at Rutgers is presenting a people-centered approach to confronting the COVID-19 crisis. It includes a proposal for a work-sharing program, running through July, that would save the university up to $100 million through targeted furloughs while fully protecting the jobs and incomes of Rutgers workers. The clock is ticking, though—the federal support that makes work-sharing viable runs out at the end of July, so every week the administration delays, it loses $10 million in savings.
