Dear colleague,
Tomorrow (Friday, March 24) at 4 p.m., we are holding a cross-union all-member town hall meeting to answer your questions about a possible strike and discuss the way forward to a fair contract. President Holloway’s misleading “update” about negotiations makes it even more important to be prepared for the next stage of our fight. We urge you to join your colleagues—over 400 people have signed up already!—and be part of this important discussion; click here to get the Zoom link.
This week and next, we will continue holding Picket Line Training Sessions. Click here to sign up for a one-hour Zoom session being held numerous times through the end of the month. If President Holloway and his administration continue to reject or shortchange our proposals for a fair contract—while trying to intimidate us and divide us from our students—we have to be ready to go on strike.
It is not illegal for public-sector workers to go on strike in New Jersey, as President Holloway claimed. Our unions believe all workers have a fundamental right to withhold our labor to oppose unsafe and unfair working conditions. The heart of any strike is the picket line. It is a concrete demonstration of our determination to stay united and pressure the administration until they meet our demands. If we have to go on strike, we need to be prepared, so our picket lines are strong, lively, and safe from day one.
Think of the picket line as another way to celebrate our unions’ values and vision for a better Rutgers. We’ll plan for that at our town hall and the Picket Line Training Sessions.
In solidarity,
Becky and Amy
