Dear colleague,
We hope you’ll join us at a campaign rally for Analilia Mejia this coming Monday to hear Sen. Bernie Sanders and other great speakers say why they support Analilia becoming the next member of Congress from New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District.
The Monday, January 19, rally is at William Paterson University’s Shea Center for the Performing Arts (300 Pompton Rd., Wayne). Doors open at 4 p.m. (come early; long lines are expected!), and the speakers start at 6 p.m. Click here to let us know you’re coming—and look for our union banner outside the venue after the rally so we can connect and make organizing plans! (To see a list of items that aren’t allowed inside the venue, click here.)
Before the rally, our Newark members will gather for the annual Martin Luther King March of Resistance. Meet by 12 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Statue, 495 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Click here to RSVP and get more details. We want to demonstrate our commitment to the ideals of the civil rights movement and protest against unjust and undemocratic policies of the Trump administration.
Our unions endorsed Analilia in the special election to fill Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s former seat in Congress. Analilia is a long-time ally of our unions at Rutgers. She is a Rutgers graduate and was a student in our Educational Opportunity Fund program. We want to help make sure she wins the Democratic primary on February 5 and brings her strong commitment to labor and progressive causes to Washington.
Analilia will also be joining Newark Mayor Ras Baraka at a town hall event on Saturday, January 17, at 2:30–4 p.m. in Montclair; the event will include an ICE Watch training. Click here to RSVP and get location details.
In solidarity,
Matthew Buckley, Legislative Committee Co-Chair, Rutgers AAUP-AFT
Heather Pierce, Legislative Committee Co-Chair, President, Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union
