Dear colleague,
The Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs has announced the call for nominations for the 2026–27 Cheryl Wall Faculty Fellowships—an important program that our unions won in our current contract. We encourage members to apply for the fellowships, which honor the legacy of Dr. Wall, a dedicated union member, a friend and colleague to many of you, and a champion of making a diverse Rutgers.
The fellowships award a course release (or the equivalent for clinicians) to faculty members who mentor, advise, and support underserved, first-generation, and/or underrepresented students to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. You should have received an email announcement from your chancellor with information about how to apply.
If you want to apply for the fellowship, you need to submit this form by December 24—see the contact information for your campus at the bottom of the form. Chancellors will review the applications and make recommendations to the University Committee on Diversity, Race, and Gender, which will in turn make recommendations to the EVPAA. Fellowship recipients will be announced by February 27.
Our unions fought for this program during our last contract campaign to support the important—and previously uncompensated—work of engaging with underserved students to help make Rutgers the diverse institution we want it to be. We initially proposed the program when we bargained in 2018 and 2019 and continued fighting until we won it.
We look forward to celebrating those of you who are chosen for these awards honoring Dr. Wall.
In solidarity,
Rebecca Givan, President, Rutgers AAUP-AFT
Catherine Monteleone, MD, President, AAUP-BHSNJ
We launched our union bargaining survey last month, so we can start deciding together on our priorities for our next contract. If you haven’t taken the survey yet, look for an email with the subject line “Take Our Union Bargaining Survey!” You need to click on the “Begin Survey” button in that email—it only takes five or ten minutes to complete. The deadline for filling out the survey is Friday, December 12.
