We invite you to one of our upcoming union clinics if you want to learn more about your health insurance plans and options under the State Health Benefits Program (SHBP).

These clinics are especially for new hires, who have to choose which of the different plans they would like to enroll in, or for anyone who qualifies to enroll in a plan or make changes to an existing enrollment because of a “life-qualifying event.” There is a lot of information you need to process, and the university’s guidance is woefully inadequate.

But we also invite anyone who wants to learn more about their future options under the SHBP to attend as well. The webinar will be led by AAUP-AFT Executive Director Patrick Nowlan, who serves on the Plan Design Committee of the NJ State Health Benefits Program.

There are nine different plans provided by two companies—a total of eighteen options in all—offered to Rutgers full-time faculty and clinicians, grad workers, postdocs, and EOF counselors. To pick the right plan for you and your family, you need to weigh the effects of several factors, such as premium contributions (which come out of your biweekly paycheck), per-visit copays, deductibles, and so on. At the clinic, we’ll share resources and go through real-world examples to help you make your decision, whether it’s this month or next October, which is the next open enrollment month for everyone in the SHBP.
