Infosilem, or CourseAtlas, as it has been rebranded, is the robo-scheduling software used by the university to schedule classes and make room assignments.
The introduction of this software several years ago has made the whole process more chaotic and stressful than ever. Department staff, who have to scramble to make the changes after Infosilem schedules classes at unworkable times in poor locations, are under even greater pressure because of the near-freeze on university hiring (except at the top of the central administration).
Our union has pressed management to negotiate over the use of Infosilem, and we’ve won some concessions, including more time for making changes after initial assignments are made. But we’ve got more to demand about Infosilem/Course Atlas—and we’ll have to organize to get it.
