…Until the next Board of Governors meeting, when President Holloway promised the mishandled pay equity program would be fixed!
At the Board of Governors meeting in early October, Rutgers faculty and staff spoke out about their disappointment with the administration’s mishandling of the salary equity program we negotiated in our contract—and they were joined in expressing their disappointment by Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg. In response, President Holloway acknowledged that this isn’t acceptable: “I hear all of you loud and clear,” he said, “and I am determined that we will address pay equity concerns in a way such that you will not have to come back to the Board of Governors repeating the very powerful and poignant stories and personal sentiments again.”
There are a lot of problems to fix. According to our union’s analysis, the initial rounds of decisions in the salary equity program shortchanged more than 100 faculty members by at least $750,000 and probably close to $1 million in all.
We’re glad President Holloway listened to our concerns—and we look forward to learning how he will address them so we don’t need to return to the next Board of Governors meeting and raise our voices again.
