A Statement from Thomas E. Moomjy—Candidate for Secretary, Rutgers PTL Union
A union is a living thing. People come and go, but the presence of an organized body that looks out for the collective good of all Rutgers PTLs must continue to grow. Our union is both a right and privilege. Of course we have the right to organize. We are privileged, however, because the job our union does impacts thousands of other people. It is a privilege I do not take lightly.
We are working professionals. Teachers one and all. And while many of may disagree about a variety of things, we are united by a desire to provide the best education possible to our students.
Our professional and teaching expertise impacts every segment of Rutgers University.
In 2015, PTL union density was 70%. Less than 5 years later we are below 50%. We can’t only blame Janus. We have to look at ourselves
If we are to redefine success, we must strengthen our union not only by increasing membership, but empowering membership.
We need to empower new generations of leadership, while at the same time gaining wisdom from those with past experience.
A union is a living thing. I’d like to live and grow with all of you. Vote for me, Thomas E. Moomjy, as the next secretary of the Rutgers PTL Union.
