Financial Analysis of Higher Education at Rutgers

The Rutgers AAUP-AFT has benefited greatly from the expertise of Dr. Howard Bunsis, especially when we were negotiating the 2014-2018 Collective Bargaining Agreement for the full-time faculty and TA-GA bargaining unit.

Dr. Bunsis chairs the AAUP-Collective Bargaining Congress (CBC) and serves on the national AAUP Executive Committee. He is Professor of Accounting at Eastern Michigan University. Not only does Dr. Bunsis have a B.A. in Accounting from the Wharton School, but he also holds advanced degrees from the University of Chicago and Fordham. He is one of the nation’s leading accounting sleuths for public universities, a true expert in analyzing higher education finances.

Consequently, Dr. Bunsis empowers faculty with the sound data on the finances and budgets at their institutions of higher education in order to understand the myths and realities.

Dr. Bunsis conducted a workshop at the 2015 AAUP Summer Institute to help faculty tackle their institution's financial information. We are defending quality public higher education through knowing the fundamentals of our own institution's actual financial health and priotities.  Here are documents that Dr. Bunsis prepared for our contract campaign and negotiating teams in 2014:
