Time to Implement the New Contract for Full-Time Faculty

We will continue to monitor each step related to implementation of the terms of the new contract for full-time faculty. Member activism was critical in making these gains possible. Now member calls and emails about how each step is being implemented are important for the AAUP-AFT to know what is happening on the ground. This improves our ability to work effectively with the RU administration, especially when deadlines are missed. Thanks for your calls and emails.

Here is a summary of the new terms:

The salary increase of $2,345 to base salary for 2014-15 will appear in the May 22 paychecks of eligible faculty and will include the retro pay back to September 1, 2014.

For eligible tenure-track Assistant Professors reappointed in the past three years, the reappointment increase of 2.5% will be paid in the May 8 paycheck retro to September 1, 2014.

For faculty still below the new minimum salaries by rank once the above increases are paid, you will have your salaries adjusted again in June and paid retro to September 1, 2014. Minimum salaries will be adjusted again on July 1, 2015.

The merit evaluation process for 2015-16 will begin in the fall semester and awards should be announced by the early spring 2016. Awards, ranging from 1% - 10%, will be paid retro to July 1, 2015.

We continue to work with management to implement all of the new agreements and hope to have a cleaned-up version of the entire contract available shortly. We will notify you when that is ready.

With regard to health care costs, we continue to work with the other unions to determine if incentives can be provided to promote better health and lower overall health care costs. To that end, a survey was sent via email during the Spring Semester 2015 and the information has been very helpful in developing our proposals and advocating for quality and cost-savings for employees who have health insurance through one of the State Health Benefits plans. New options will become available for the January 2016 plan year. Watch for details this Fall Semester 2015.
