Winter recess is fast approaching, and we’re still working without a contract. Our strategy of mobilization and activism has had an impact, and we’re making progress at the bargaining table, but the administration’s offer is still inadequate. So, now it’s time for us to take our demands to the Board of Governors (BOG), which will meet on Tuesday, December 9th in New Brunswick. It’s time to stand up and be counted.
We need hundreds of you to commit to attend an indoor rally on December 9th at the Rutgers Student Center, College Ave Campus, starting with lunch from 12:00 noon to 1 pm.
The Tuesday, December 9th rally will provide our members—along with our staff unions and student allies—an opportunity to be heard by elected officials in attendance before we head into the Board of Governors meeting at Winants Hall from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. to fill the seats and aisles.
This is our last chance to mobilize before the end of classes. Many full-time faculty have told us that your voices are silenced or sidelined by management in the governance of Rutgers—and you're right.
Many TA-GAs have told us about the issues you face as graduate student workers here at Rutgers: low pay, outrageous health insurance costs, loss of TA/GA job lines. You're not alone.
Our last big action, the university-wide walkout on October 23rd, was a huge success, drawing more than 1,000 faculty, students, and staff across all campuses and worksites. The time to escalate is now, when political figures and the Board of Governors are paying attention. Elected officials throughout the state and prominent alumnae, including Pulitzer-Prize-winning author Junot Díaz, are standing with us. They have signed onto a solidarity statement with Rutgers labor, including U.S. Senator Cory Booker, State Senate President Stephen Sweeney, and State Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg. We need you to come and raise your voice with us so that the BOG hears us loud and clear.
RSVP to email@example.com for Tuesday, December 9 from 12 noon - 2 pm. Lunch will be provided. If you can, please stay for the entire action, but let us know if you can only do one part:
- Rally/Lunch from 12-1pm in the Multipurpose Room, Rutgers Student Center, College Ave Campus, New Brunswick
