On February 8, 2016, President Teresa Politano, reported on the management error in PTL paychecks that occurred on the Jan 29, 2016 paycheck--the last paycheck for the Fall 2015 semester was supposed to contain the retroactive salary increase for the fall semester:
Dear PTL Colleagues:
We have received word from RU management that refunds should appear in Friday's paychecks (February 12, 2016) for PTLs who were overcharged union dues.
According to management, there was an error in the calculation process with regard to union dues or representation fees. PTLs were paid a retroactive lump sum in a separate check on Jan. 29. Thanks to a management error, many of those PTLs were also overcharged an exorbitant fee credited to union dues.
We have been informed that PTLs who were overcharged will receive a refund; this correction should appear in the February 12 paycheck. Other payroll problems have been reported. Management tells us they also have been addressed.
Note: PTL union dues are 0.50% of salary. Based on the new salary minimum for teaching a 3-credit course of $4926, the biweekly amount deducted is $2.26--the total dues deducted for a whole semester would only be $24.63.
Please continue to monitor your paycheck on February 12 and subsequent paychecks to make sure that your salary increase is being handled correctly. Thanks to everyone who alerted us to this and other errors. Your paycheck should reflect the following increase:
For PTLs paid by the credit hour, the new minimum for Fall 2015 is $1642 per credit hour taught. The salary increase is 2%, but some PTLs may have a higher percentage increase, e.g., if the previous salary was quite a bit lower than the new minimum.
For PTLs who are paid other than by the credit hour, the increases are commensurate and the new salary minima are:
PALS Intensive and Evening Programs: Fall 2015: $50/hr
PALS Corporate Program: Fall 2015: $55/hr
Mason Gross studio PTLs: Fall 2015: $370/student
We thank the full members for making our union strong--and we encourage everyone who is only paying the non-member representation fee to join our union. Together we will continue to be able to defend our right to fair salary increases and respect as professionals who are vital to Rutgers' mission of quality education.
