On October 27, 2015, President David M. Hughes advised full-time faculty about implementation steps for salary increases in Year Two of the Agreement (Year Two began July 1, 2015 and awards will be paid with a retroactive adjustment).
We recently sent an email alerting you that considerations for merit salary awards are in process. Each department will need to formulate criteria by which the 2% merit pool is allotted among colleagues. Here is some information from our contract that might be helpful in designing those criteria:
1. Merit salary awards can be based on recent and continued excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service.
2. Merit awards can also be allotted based on equity. The guidelines allow for consideration of equity in salary “in comparison with compensation of colleagues of similar achievement in the department or discipline at large.”
3. In addition to pools available to tenured and tenure-track faculty, a proportion of total funds will now be available exclusively for faculty on the non-tenure track. A separate statement must be formulated regarding the specific criteria for a merit salary increase for those on the non-tenure track.
Contract language pertaining to merit raises can be found here. Please feel free to call the Union office should you have any questions with regard to these merit programs.
