Full-Time Faculty: Clarification on approaching merit considerations

Submitted by Staff on Wed, 10/07/2015 - 17:44

Faculty will soon be able to participate in the Faculty Compensation Program which allows for salary merit awards from a minimum of $500 up to a 10% increase to base salaries of eligible members. In addition to pools available to tenured and tenure-track faculty, a proportion of total funds will now be available separately for faculty on the non-tenure track. The process will begin this semester with salary awards retroactive to July 1, 2015.

Departments are charged with developing and distributing statements of specific criteria to be applied for tenure-track and non-tenure-trackpools as well as determining the look-back period which to evaluate. These criteria are formulated by the faculty within a framework of the following general criteria: recent and continuing excellence in scholarship, teaching, and/or service. The general guidelines also allow one to consider equity of salaries “in comparison with compensation of colleagues of similar achievement in the department or discipline at large.” Keep a lookout for an announcement from your dean/director or department chairs providing information to eligible faculty on when relevant materials for consideration are required to be submitted. Note that you’re entitled to a 20-day “heads up” that considerations will take place in order to gather and submit the materials you wish to have considered. Take the time to make your case.

If you have any questions regarding eligibility requirements or other questions about the process, please contact our office at 732-964-1000. Questions with regard to criteria and materials to be considered should be directed to department chairs.
