Below are the details that Shornna Berkeley and David M. Hughes shared with EOF union members and full-time faculty/TA-GA union for a very important advocacy event on Thursday, June 22 in our fight for affordable, quality higher education.
Be present to support the announcement of restoration of EOF Funding!
Stop the cuts! Instead, expand funding to Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF)!
The Educational Opportunity Fund was started by the state in 1968 to support first-generation, low-income college students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. The big difference from other access programs is that each EOF student receives a dedicated counselor while in college. Those counselors are part of our union and we call on you to join us in Trenton to support EOF counselors and students and the broader fight for affordable, quality higher education.
Once again, the Governor has proposed a cut to the EOF budget—the third year in a row! This time the cut is the biggest—$3.565 million.
Each year we've worked with the Legislature to restore the cut and have actually expanded funding for the program. Our allies in the Legislature are committed to restoring this funding and have invited us to join them at 12 noon on Thursday, June 22, for a Statehouse event in Trenton to announce the restoration.
** Meet us at 11:30am in the Statehouse cafeteria, Cafe NJ. We'll be heading to Room L103, across from the Senate chamber.
You can drive and park in the statehouse garage or take a train and walk from the Trenton train station. Or, if you will be coming from New Brunswick and would like to take part in a car pool, respond to this message.
