Announcement of the 2017 PTL Professional Development Fund Awards

Submitted by Staff on Mon, 04/24/2017 - 16:02

On April 20, 2017, President Teresa Politano announced the spring 2017 awards to the Part-Time Lecturer membership.

Dear Rutgers PTLs,

Congratulations to the 44 PTLs who were recently granted Professional Development Awards.

Awards this year totaled $64,588.19, the highest in history. The total surpassed the amount stipulated in the contract. In many cases, individual awards were higher than ever.

Many PTLs were awarded $3,000 to $4,000 for research and other academic development.

These awards reinforced the specific, targeted message that we repeat to the Administration at every opportunity: PTLS are professionals and our salaries, job security and benefits ought to reflect that.

We push hard to secure a significant increase in funding for professional development. The amount rose from $20,000 annually in the previous contract to $60,000 in the current one.

We urge all PTLs to apply every year. Also if you did not receive the full amount you requested or were denied funding by your Dean, please let us know.

In solidarity,

Teresa Politano
Part-Time Lecturer, School of Communication and Information
