Thanks to the more than 100 MEMBERS who joined with hundreds of staff and student activists Tuesday at our indoor lunch rally and march to the Board of Governors (BOG). Notably, Prof. David Hughes took the opportunity to address the BOG on why faculty object to signing a contract with the “subject to” language that allowed management to freeze our salaries in 2010. Here’s a link to the Daily Targum piece on it.
These actions are getting results at the bargaining table and we have no intention of letting up until a contract with fair salary and fair non-economic terms is offered.
Please join graduate student employees outside of Thursday’s bargaining session at Old Queens, where they will be holding a grade-in in the hallway at 11am. They are taking a stand against cutting TA/GA lines to force graduate students into more precarious labor conditions. For instance, in the past year alone, the School of Arts and Sciences cut TA lines by 11%. The administration is doing this to force them into fellowships without benefits or into positions as Part-Time Lecturers, where they are expected to teach at a fraction of the salary of a TA with no health insurance.
