AAUP-AFT Executive Council Statement on 2016 Presidential Race

Submitted by Staff on Mon, 10/10/2016 - 10:47

The Executive Council of our Union voted on October 6, 2016 to endorse Hillary Clinton for president of the United States.  As you will read in the statement, the Council also denounced Donald Trump as particularly dangerous for higher education and for Rutgers.

In the interests of AVERTING a Trump presidency, the Council urges full union members – when time permits – to take part in canvassing and phone banking for Clinton.  The statewide office of the American Federation of Teachers has planned one such opportunity in the “battleground” of Philadelphia for Saturday 15 October.  A bus will leave from New Brunswick, or you may meet the group directly in Philadelphia (driving directions).  THE ASSEMBLY POINT IS ALSO SERVED BY SEPTA BUSES.

In solidarity,

David M. Hughes
