Education is under attack at Rutgers where management is starving the libraries, undermining faculty governance, growing the ranks of contingent labor, and resisting demands for fair compensation. Recent well-attended protests outside bargaining sessions show that faculty will not accept this corporatized degradation of our working conditions, which are our students’ learning conditions.
To win a fair contract, we must broaden and escalate our activities.
Therefore, on Thursday, Oct. 23, starting at 12:30pm, faculty on all campuses—Camden, Newark, College Ave, Busch, Livingston and Cook/Douglass—will join our staff union colleagues for a lunchtime walkout to Reclaim Rutgers. The action will include a brief speakout about the impact of management's corporate priorities on departments and services at Rutgers.
Maximum participation from all faculty and TA-GAs will be key to making this action a success. Faculty who teach during that period are asked to bring their classes out to at least some of the action to educate students about cuts and misplaced priorities that impact them. We encourage all participants to take, post, and circulate selfies with #ReclaimRutgers at this lunchtime walkout.
