Members Turn Out to Fight for EOF Funding Restoration

Submitted by Staff on Wed, 06/22/2016 - 10:50

Following Governor Christie's proposed 6.6% cut  -- a 2.5 million dollar cut -- to the Educational Opportunity Fund, Rutgers AAUP-AFT members marched on the state house demanding a restoration of funds. With support from Senate President Steve Sweeney and Senator Sandra Cunningham, EOF counselors, faculty, and students protested on the state house floor on May 23rd.

In response to the May 23rd action, key legislators are working to pressure Governor Christie to not only restore funding to PDF but to add money to the program. This is a program that guarantees a college education to students who would not have the opportunity otherwise. Funding restoration also means respect for our members, EOF counselors, who work everyday to ensure that this program continues to succeed. Union pressure has succeeded in the past to push Christie back, in 2015 not only was EOF fundng restored but an additonal 1 million dollars was added to the EOF operating budget.
