Last week's Reclaim Rutgers Day of Action was a huge success. Despite the rain, more than 1,000 faculty, staff, and students walked out at lunch on all Rutgers campuses and worksites to demand fair contracts for all employees. At Voorhees Mall, where more than 200 came out, dozens of students merged their fight for shared governance with our own and together we all marched to OId Queens. Check out the photo album posted to our website.
We need to keep up the pressure on management until we get an acceptable contract offer. Management's current offer of a 3.75% combined across-the-board and merit increase over the next 3 years is insulting and unacceptable.
This Friday, October 31, we have another bargaining session with Barchi's team. In honor of Halloween, we'd like to spook management, so faculty, staff, and student allies will hold a mock funeral march with coffins on College Avenue in New Brunswick to symbolize management's attitude toward affordable tuition, collective bargaining, shared governance, and fair salary increases. The plan is to meet up outside the Rutgers Student Center on College Ave at 11 AM and, from there, we'll march to Old Queens. Please wear a costume if you have one, but don't hesitate to join us without one.
Faculty and grad student employees at Rutgers-Camden and Rutgers-Newark will have a chance to be heard as well on Friday morning when we send out a sample email for you to contact President Barchi before bargaining begins that day.
We hope you can join us: RSVP to email@example.com
