After faculty who were outraged at the slow pace of negotiations emailed President Barchi to demand more sessions to bargain for a fair contract, we were given an additional date, this Friday, October 10.
The last bargaining session, we had a fantastic turnout and action that helped move the discussion in a more positive direction. Our aim this time is to have faculty members holding signs, posing direct questions and chanting appropriate slogans so that management knows exactly where you stand. Our action is timed to coincide with a bargaining lunch break, so that we can also hear an update from the leaders of our bargaining team and our attorney.

This action will end by 1:30pm, but please come even if you can stay for just a little while.
The key issues over which we are bargaining are decent salary increases for all full-time faculty and TAs/GAs, a phased retirement program, options to reduce health care costs, the retention of TA lines and the elimination of contract language (the dreaded “subject to” language), which allowed management to freeze our salaries after the last contract was negotiated.
In addition to faculty participation Friday, some of our staff colleagues—also in bargaining—will join us, as it appears that our local may be setting the pattern for the others on campus.
