Due to management's refusal to grant our bargaining team a sufficient number of sessions to hammer out an agreement in time for our contract deadline, August 31, 2014, our union's attorneys have been forced to file an unfair labor practice against the university. Our aim in doing this is to compel management to bargain in good faith, which cannot happen unless we have a sufficient number of bargaining sessions that allow for a genuine exchange of ideas and collaboration—one or two sessions a month for a couple of hours is simply not a serious amount of time to devote to discussing working conditions and compensation for thousands of full-time faculty and TA-GAs.
Please encourage your colleagues to attend your chapter's mobilizing meeting in September so that we can hear from more of you to help shape and so more members can get plugged into organizing plans this fall with your campus Contract Action Team.
Faculty involvement was key in winning better terms in the recent past and it will be again this fall, so please mark your calendar now for a campus mobilizing meeting in September. Send your RSVP to email@example.com.
