Community Alliances

As the union of one of the most diverse faculties in the nation that serves more than 58,000 students from all 50 states and more than 125 countries, we have a responsibility to the communities in which we live and work. We've formed meaningful alliances with other groups and individuals to protect and expand economic, social and political rights for all of our faculty, staff and students. Some of our community partners are:

  • Working Families United for New Jerseya statewide grassroots coalition consisting of labor, religious, community, civil rights, student, women and retirees' groups collectively committed to building a better life for all working families in New Jersey
  • New Jersey Time to Care Coalitionsupports initiatives that make sure working families have paid time to care for themselves and their families, e.g. paid family leave, earned sick days, and minimum wage
  • New Jersey Citizen Actionthe state's largest citizen watchdog coalition that works to protect and expand the rights of individuals and families and to ensure that government officials respond to the needs of people rather than the interests of those with money and power
  • Working Families Alliance and the Better Choices Coalitiona grassroots coalition representing workers, environmentalists, consumers and more that formed to advance a vision of a New Jersey that works for the people instead of the powerful
  • Rutgers One—is a coalition of Rutgers students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community organizations united to defend quality public higher education
  • New Laboris an alternative model of worker organization that combines new and existing strategies to improve working conditions of low-wage workers, advocate against wage theft and recover wages illegally withheld by an employer, and provide a voice for immigrant workers throughout New Jersey
